Zoe L

Meet Zoe, a MetroSquash student and freshman at Evanston Township High School who is paving the way for the future generations! Zoe was one of 6 students enrolled in our first Evanston cohort. A squash demo at Chute Middle School was held where 6th grader, Zoe, showed interest in the program. Soon after, Zoe and her family signed up to be part of MetroSquash at Parent Teacher Conferences.

Since enrolling at MetroSquash, Zoe has had years of experience on the court; practicing her skills, pushing through injuries, and being a leader for her peers. Zoe’s squash coach has seen her progress as a squash player as well as in the classroom. “Zoe has grown in so many ways in the past few years. She has always been a team player, and has transformed into an incredible leader, and is always supporting and including everyone around her. She demonstrates all of the MetroValues with ease.”

Zoe really enjoys the squash and academic components, but those aren’t the sole reasons for keeping her invested and excited. It’s her lasting friendships and the connections she is able to make with others through MetroSquash programming. Zoe’s compassion is strong and unique, and when she cares about someone or something, it’s deeply felt and a joy to share in her excitement. 

Zoe is aware of the responsibility she holds with being part of the first existing class in Evanston. “It’s exciting knowing that I will be a role model for other students.” Zoe received the Squash and Education Alliance’s 2022 Summer School Scholarship to attend a summer program for high school students at the University of Rochester. “I am pretty nervous for the future but I know this is a big opportunity for me. I am excited to work with others and really learn about myself through this new process.”

Everyday, Zoe demonstrates MetroValues and continues to be an advocate for her teammates. MetroSquash is very proud of Zoe’s accomplishments, and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for her.
