Overview
The program is comprised of four essential youth-development pillars: squash & fitness (physical), academics & enrichment (academic), social work & supportive services (emotional), and college & careers (professional). To date, MetroSquash has demonstrated a 100% college acceptance rate, 98% college enrollment rate, 88% college persistence rate, and 85% of our alumni have secured full-time employment.
MetroSquash launched in 2005 serving 10 fifth grade students and utilizing University of Chicago squash courts and nearby classroom space. Today, MetroSquash serves over 400 students from middle school through post-secondary completion at two locations. We are proud to have a permanent home in Woodlawn at the corner of 61st and Cottage Grove which opened in 2015 thanks to the generous support from the Chicago’s squash and civic community. The Hussain MetroSquash Center is Chicago’s largest squash facility and features 7 singles squash courts, 1 doubles squash court, 4 classrooms, office space, and a social work office. In 2018 MetroSquash began serving students in Evanston utilizing squash courts at the McGaw YMCA. The program’s long term plans include a permanent home in Evanston and expansion to Chicago’s West Side.
