During the Chicago summer when students are unsupervised and school is out of session, death amongst teenagers from violent crime rises significantly. Students are more likely to experiment with drugs, submit to peer pressure, and participate in other illegal activities. It is also the time when students report being the least active, both physically and mentally. MetroSquash aims to provide each student in our community with the opportunity to participate in at least one, if not more, enriching summer experience. A few ways MetroSquash students engage in the summer months:
Summer Squash and Enrichment Camp
MetroSquash offers a dynamic 5-week Summer Program for $10/week, which includes squash instruction, academic support and enrichment activities. Camp is open to both MetroSquash school-year students and Woodlawn residents. Children must be at least rising 5th graders to be eligible (entering 5th grade in the fall). Camp runs from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm Monday-Friday from July 11th - August 12th.
