Recent Partnership News

Through a partnership with the University of Chicago’s Office of Civic Engagement, this year over half of MetroSquash middle school students were able to increase their college-awareness, and, feel more connected to a significant anchor in their community. The new collaboration kicked off over the winter break, when sixteen students visited the Granville-Grossman Residential Commons and Cathey Dinning Commons. In the following months, two more groups visited the UChicago campus and enjoyed presentations by the Center for College Student Success. MetroSquash participants learned about what support services to look for in a college, as well as programs to help them find their best-fit school. This spring, OCE grant funds also allowed eight MetroSquash girls to participate in science workshops on campus. Finally, this summer two students will participate in University of Chicago affiliated academic enrichment camps. MetroSquash thanks the OCE for their generous support, and looks forward to further collaboration.
